A peaceful spirit

I am at peace
A quiet kindness
fills my sprit
my heart and soul

Giving up control
Kindness over anger
puts out any fire
triumphs over the unjust

Above the earth’s crust
Doing what is right
walking hand in hand
heart in heart

Right from the start
Does not judge or blame
listen closely to hear it
embrace your peaceful sprit

When time slows and beauty shows

stop and smell the roses enjoy life

Ever notice the little beautiful things you can see when you’re going about your day? The mundane, boring, and even ugly things can be beautiful when viewed by the right lens.

In the hustle and bustle of busy life we often overlook these things, but if you focus your mind you will notice them.

The breeze gently caressing the trees. The purr of your car motor. The sun rays peeking through the wispy clouds. The seamless precision of the cashier ringing up your goods. The somber look in your pets eyes when you leave for the day. A sick baby’s raspy cry for her mommy. A bird flapping its wings gracefully. The clickety-clack sound of the train whirring by. Raindrops dancing off the pavement. The elegant movements of a spider moving on their silky web. The happy song of the crickets. The peaceful sound of silence.

Sights and sounds like these can only be experienced if we slow down and take the time to notice them. Life can move at a blistering pace and people need to unplug from technology and the rat race long enough to smell the roses.

When you do notice these things, really pay attention to them because time nearly stops. For one brief peaceful moment you are fully present. You’re in the here and now experiencing this beautiful sight in real time. The real visible world brings order to people’s lives. The virtual world can’t even come close to measuring up.

Close observation of your physical surroundings is a multi-sensory experience which sets it apart from your smart phone or smart device. You hear the sounds, see the sights, feel the breeze on your cheek, feel the raindrops on your head, and many many more feelings technology can’t duplicate, at least not yet.

This is the magic that can happen you let time slow and beauty show. Try it 🙂

The Unspoken

Life is a journey, which we are a part of..
It gives us people with whom we learn, fight, smile, share.
People who we live with.
It gives us family, it gives us friends.

Along the way, we find someone.
Someone with whom life is more beautiful, easier..
Someone who completes us.
It’s that someone we love, someone we want to call ours.

A someone who’ll ask ‘what you need?’
Will not only wait for the answer but also make it happen.
Someone who will do everything for us.
Someone we want to keep.

For a love like that, something we must do.
Something that assures they’re special.

It always starts with “A Thought”.

My emotional DNA

Name: Justin

Age: 32

Astrological Sign: Sagittarius

Chinese Zodiac Sign: Monkey

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Cookies n’ Cream (add a warm chocolate cookie at the bottom of the bowl, hot caramel and fudge drizzled over the top, and you have pure heaven my friend)

Myers-Briggs Personality Type: INFJ (introversion, intuition, feeling, judging)

My most dominant emotion: Sympathy

What are the advantages and disadvantages of sympathy?

The advantage of being very sympathetic is being empathetic of others and the ability to feel what they are feeling. Ever since I can remember I have been hyper sensitive to my emotions and those around me.

The disadvantage of being sympathetic is I’m like an emotional sponge soaking up other people’s feelings. Being sympathetic can also cause me to be deeply hurt by others. When someone is angry it can negatively affect my mood for days.

Second most dominant emotion: Compassion

What are the advantages and disadvantages of compassion?

There are many advantages being compassionate that serve me well in so many ways. People respond to the compassion I show in a very positive way and appreciate my selflessness.

A disadvantage is that my compassion sometimes gets taken for granted or shrugged off like they don’t care. One of my deepest desires is to be liked and accepted by others and showing compassion can make me vulnerable.

Third most dominant emotion: Depression

What are the advantages and disadvantages of depression?

There are several advantages to having depression believe it or not. When I’m depressed I can empathize better with others which helps me express my first most dominant emotion, sympathy. Also, I am MUCH more creative when depressed and create some of my best art and writing!

Unfortunately, the disadvantages are far more numerous than the advantages. Some of the many include a lack of energy, being unmotivated, moody, withdrawing from people, loss of interest, loss of appetite, stress, and a profound sadness are some disadvantages of my depression.

Adults need playtime too

According to psychiatrist Stuart Brown, play continued into your adult years helps shape the brain, opens the imagination and invigorates the soul. He says that without play adults quickly become depressed and this is made worse by stressful times like our most recent economic recession.

By playing, Dr. Brown means adults having good old wholesome fun that doesn’t necessarily involve alcohol. According to his book, the eight play styles are:

1. Joking
2. Moving
3. Exploring
4. Competing
5. Directing
6. Collecting
7. Storytelling
8. Creating Art

Personally, as a 32 year old married man, I too do not get nearly enough play in my life. Sure, I do joke quite a bit, but I don’t laugh as much as I used to. I explore, but it’s usually limited to virtual exploring on movies, the Internet, or video games. I do create art like in designing and writing my blog, but not as much as I’d like and haven’t painted or done any other fine art for almost a year.

I am amazed when I watch my 16 month old daughter play. She’s such a happy girl and can find fun in just about anything. One way that she plays that I particularly like is she sits on the floor or the couch and just waves her arms excitedly and sort of bounces in place while smiling wide and giggling.

She’ll entertain herself by doing this and the more she moves the happier she gets. I tried it with her and imitated her while I sat next to her. She loved to have daddy sharing in her fun and I loved it too. I wasn’t having the best day but when I started waving my arms widely and smiling I couldn’t help becoming happier!

According to Dr. Brown, my daughter loves movement because its her play style to dance, bounce and climb. While this isn’t my play style I certainly do benefit from moving and grooving more. I instantly can feel the endorphins surging through my body in a wave of happiness.

Put simply, we adults must not forget to play. Children can teach us and help us re-learn these principles because they are professional players. I urge each and every one of you to find your play style, practice, and repeat; and that’s a doctor’s order 🙂

Give nothing to your wife

give your marriage the gift of nothing

What I mean is, give a day of nothing to your wife or husband. What gift could be better than letting your spouse truly relax and take over all the daily tasks?

I did this for my wife one day last week and it worked out perfectly. I planned on continuing this on a weekly basis as well. She loved this gift more than any piece of jewelry or bouquet of flowers that I’ve ever given to her because she did the one thing she never gets to do, nothing!

After work when she usually gets of work and heads to her next one, being a mom, she just got home and sat down on the couch. She put up her feet and even had a beer. She smiled slightly as she saw my preparing dinner while simultaneously taking care of Josie and folding laundry.

She waited patiently for dinner and rested her eyes. I got her a glass of water while she checked her Pinterest and Facebook. She started telling me what someone posted on Facebook as I was taking care of things.

We then sat down to a delicious meal and relaxed. I fed our one year old daughter Josie while we talked about our days. She thanked me for giving her a day of nothing. I finished eating and feeding Josie and started the dishes. Before she finished her meal the dishes were all rinsed and loaded in the dishwasher.

After dinner it was time to give Josie a bath and get her ready for bed. Just as I lifted Josie out of her high chair I smelt a big poopie with my name all over it. My wife snickered and made a joke about she would be happy to help if she could. With a smile, I said no problem and quickly changed her.

I gave her a bath, got her jammies on, brushed her teeth and the sat down with her on the rocking chair. We read several books including her favorite, Goodnight Moon. I then turned the lights down and lulled her to sleep in the rocking chair.

After putting Josie to bed I went back to our bedroom. Just as I was going to tell my wife how easy Josie went Dow I saw she was fast asleep. I kissed her on the forehead and said I love you. She said I love you back in a half asleep voice. I kissed her once more and headed back into the living room, there was still laundry to fold.

Reasons to smile

From an excellent blogger with great insights, check them out 🙂

Keepin' it real.

Inspired by the happsters (their blog link will be down below), I thought that I would make a post on why people should smile. Firstly, you’re alive. If thats not something to be happy about then I don’t know what is. Even if you think you have a crap life, you know that you can somehow turn it around. I don’t mean to be gross or anything, but out of the millions of sperm and eggs, you were the one that was picked to become a zygote and enter this world. The most basic things in life can also be the best. You most likely have a roof over your head, food on the table, and education, so whats more to ask? You may not have billions of dollars, a sports-car outback, and designer clothes, but even if you did, it probably wouldn’t be enough. I’m probably starting to sound…
